Fleas in House
No one likes fleas in the house. Even dogs and cats prefer to leave fleas in the yard, but they need your help. That’s why NEW-TEC offers flea treatments for the house and yard.
If fleas are invading your home, call us today, we can help.
The bottom line is we know how to kill fleas and get them out of your home. But for those who like more technical information, here’s the process.
Treating Fleas in House
For Carpet and Rug areas: As part of our treatment we use 4 products mixed together and put out with water. We use the following products:
- Adulticide: Residual product to kill fleas as they hatch
- Permethrin: Kills all active fleas at time of treatment
- Catalyst: A product that helps other products blend and helps fight immunity against synthetic pyrethroids.
- Insect Growth Regulator: Helps prevent fleas from reproducing
For Hardwood and Laminate areas: In order to prevent staining to the floors, the only product we can use is an aerosol. The aerosol includes the following:
- Adulticide: Residual product to kill fleas as they hatch
- Permethrin: Kills all active fleas at time of treatment
- Insect Growth Regulator: Helps prevent fleas from reproducing
Yes, NEW-TEC can kill the fleas in your home and yard, but we have to work together as a team to keep them out. Because no product or treatment will work without your cooperation.
Here is where the teamwork comes in:
- It is critical that you vacuum at least once per day. Fleas hatch to vibration, if there is no activity in the residence, fleas will hatch and swarm you as soon as there is movement. Vacuuming will not only cause the eggs to hatch but will help to pick up the dead and dying fleas in the carpet.
- Carpets and floors are not to be cleaned (i.e. mopped, steamed cleaned, etc.) for a minimum of 2 weeks.
- Animals in the structure should be dipped or treated for fleas according to your veterinarian.
What you can expect after treatment:
- YOU MAY STILL SEE FLEAS. The Permethrin will kill adult fleas and the Adulticide will kill fleas that hatch. However, the Adulticide can take up to 24 hours to kill the fleas as they hatch. Nothing works immediately on the eggs.
- You may have fleas swarm you the first few times you enter the residence especially if the residence is empty. This is why it is critical to get in and vacuum 4 hours after treatment and once a day until no activity is found.
Treating Fleas in Yard
The #1 reason flea treatments fail is due to improper preparation such as not preparing the house or treating the animals.
The #2 reason flea treatments fail is due to not treating the yard. Even if your animal does not go in and out of the house, you still do. If the yard has fleas, unfortunately you may be the one bringing them inside your home on your pants legs. Once inside, the fleas will find your pets.
NEW-TEC offers flea treatments for the yard that will kill all active fleas at the time of treatment. Unfortunately due to rain and weather factors beyond our control, multiple trips may need to be made at 10 day intervals to kill all fleas.
Also if your neighbor’s property has flea issues, it may not be possible to completely eliminate your issue on the exterior. However, the interior treatment will last at least 90 days killing fleas as you bring them in.
